Over the past year, Pittsburgh saw a surge in peace protests, reaching their crest in the summer months when the African-American homicide count rose to its peak.
While local officials have instituted several initiatives, the majority of non-violent responses have come from grassroots organizations made up of people with diverse backgrounds. In fact, several are being led by those not so different from the perpetrators of violence: Black males.
