The Pew Forum just published a report about the religous beliefs of African-Americans, finding that on a variety of counts, they’re more religious than most Americans.

Pew says on the measures of church attendance, prayer and belief in God, “African-Americans stand out as the most religiously committed racial or ethnic group in the nation.” African-Americans are also more comfortable with religion having a role in politics, and those who show more religious commitment are more conservative on social issues. Some 76% are Democrats or Democratic-leaning. While in the general population religion tends to correlate with Republicanism, the vast majority of African-Americans choose Democrats regardless of their religious commitment.
