African-American explorer stands tall

Sculptor John Giannotti works on the statue of Matthew Alexander Henson, an African-American explorer who stood atop the North Pole 100 years ago.

The sculpture will weigh about 1,500 pounds and stand 15 feet high, from the top of the American flag to the bottom of an etched granite base.
