Every day, the 37-year-old teacher’s aide delivers hefty servings of affection at Blue Cap, an agency that serves developmentally disabled citizens in Blue Island.
She starts her day playfully tousling the hair of one boy, cooing something into the ear of another. For the next eight hours, it’s non-stop activity, from feeding to diapering.
All the students-who range from 16 to 22-suffer from profound cognitive impairments and are unable to speak. But Green-Bouier has an uncanny ability to know just what her charges need.
