President Barack Obama has named retired army officer Alfonso Lenhardt as the new ambassador-designate to Tanzania.
Lenhardt will replace Mr Mark Green, who held the position between August 2007 and January this year, under former US president George Bush’s administration.
Under the US government system, the Senate advices the President and gives consent to the appointments of ambassadors, a statement from the US embassy said yesterday.
Since May 2004, Mr Lenhardt has been the President and CEO of the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), a non-profit organisation, the statement said.
