A marker was officially placed near the site where three civil rights workers were murdered in 1964. Mayor James Young, the first black mayor of Philadelphia, MS was present for the ceremony.
“It shows the change in Philadelphia, Mississippi. We are realizing the wrong that was done, and commorating those lives that were shed, for the freedoms and equal rights of everyone in this county, and state,” said Young.
The murders were the basis of the movie Mississippi Burning.
