Granville Academy After School Program Kicks Off 2009-2010 Program Year

Granville Academy is a national after school program that prepares youth in grades 8 thru 12 by teaching business, finance, technology, entrepreneurship, character building and community service.

BMW of Sterling Hosts Granville Kick-Off Session

The Northern Virginia Affiliate of Granville Academy will kick-off its 2009-2010 program year on Sunday, September 13, 2009, from 3pm to 5pm.  The meeting will be held at BMW of Sterling located in Sterling, Virginia.  Owned by Grambling State University alum Thomas A. Moorehead, BMW of Sterling ranks among the top 10% of all BMW Centers in the nation.

The Granville students will hear from a variety of local and regional business luminaries this year.  Confirmed speakers include Roderick Massey – Financial Planner, American Classic Agency; Harry K. Thomas, Jr. – Foreign Service Officer, U.S. Department of  State;  Dianne Hardison – President, The Hardison Group; Fannie Allen – President, Allen Etiquette Institute; Gretchen Johnson – Social Services Coordinator, Yorkville Cooperative; Don Nelson – Senior Manager, Corporate Relations, National Society of Black Engineers; and Theron D. Cook – Partnership Specialist, U.S. Census Bureau.

Invited speakers include Frankie Hughes – Hughes Capital Management;   Rebecca Falika – President, Falika’s Fashions; Samuel E. Guilford, Jr. – Executive Vice President, Gotham Asset Management; Everett Hall – Owner, Everett Hall Designs; Jonathan Speed – President, Data Systems & Technology, Inc.; Ted Daniels – President, Society for Financial Education and Professional Development; and Julien G. Patterson – Founder, Omniplex World Services Corporation.

To complement the classroom experience students will have the opportunity to participate in several events, including the Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference, the Executive Leadership Council/NextGen Network Luncheon & Dinner, the Alfred Street Baptist Church College Fair, the Washington Wizards Career Fair, the Black Women United for Action Slave Wreath Laying Ceremony, the Bill Picket Invitational Rodeo, and the Annual Granville Academy Youth Conference in Cleveland, Ohio, March 25-28, 2010.

Granville Academy is a national after school program that prepares youth in grades 8 thru 12 for success in the global marketplace by teaching the foundations of business, finance, technology, entrepreneurship, character building and community service.
