The university’s board of trustees announced Friday that Dr. Harry Lee Williams will lead the historically black institution as its 10th president.
Dr. Williams arrives at DSU after serving as the interim associate vice president for Academic Affairs for the University of North Carolina General Administration (UNC-GA).
Prior to that, he served as the associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and Diversity at Appalachian State University (ASU) from 2002 to 2007. During that period, from 2004 to 2007 Dr. Williams served as ASU’s associate vice chancellor for Enrollment Management. He was also the interim director of Admissions at North Carolina A&T State University from 2000 to 2002.
During his tenures at UNC-GA and ASU, Dr. Williams served on numerous executive boards, councils, committees and task forces. In his capacity as vice chancellor of Academic Affairs and Diversity at ASU, Dr. Williams successfully raised $565,000 for diversity scholarships.
